On Saturday, July 12, the Empower HER: Health, Safety & Self-Defense workshop took place successfully at 100 Lambs International School in Johor Bahru.
Organized by Asian Medical Students' Association, Monash (AMSA Monash) and HER, Clinical School Johor Bahru (HER CSJB), with the support of the Interact Club of 100 Lambs, this inspiring event brought together young girls for an empowering day of learning and growth.
BFF Personal Care was proud to be one of the supporting partners, helping to create a safe and empowering space where girls could learn to care for their bodies, minds, and personal boundaries.
Understanding Boundaries & Sexual Harassment
The day began with an engaging talk by Dr. Sankari Ganesh, who spoke clearly and compassionately to the students about:
-
What are personal boundaries, and why are they important?
-
How to recognize inappropriate behavior and sexual harassment
-
What to do when someone makes you feel uncomfortable
-
How to say “No” and seek help confidently
“Saying no is an act of courage—and a form of self-respect.”
With real-life examples and relatable stories, Dr. Sankari helped the girls understand how to protect themselves in a world that doesn’t always teach girls to speak up.
Women’s Health Talk: Cervical Cancer & HPV Vaccination
Next, Dr. Lim Keng Joo shared valuable health education, focusing on:
-
Cervical cancer: risks and prevention
-
Why the HPV vaccine is important and when girls should get it
-
Encouraging girls to take charge of their health and know their medical rights
“Taking care of your body is a form of self-love—and a source of strength.”
Dr. Lim’s approachable style helped demystify topics that are often neglected in mainstream education.
Self-Defense Training: Building Confidence Through Action
One of the most exciting parts of the event was the self-defense session led by a professional coach, Mr. Sean Goh Kuan Shen.
The girls were taught:
-
Basic, practical moves for personal safety
-
How to remain calm and react quickly in a threatening situation
-
Techniques to maintain distance from strangers or unwanted contact
Though many students started off a bit shy, they quickly warmed up—punching, blocking, laughing, and surprising themselves with their own strength.
BFF’s Mission: More Than Period Care
At BFF, we believe a girl’s strength comes not only from her body — but from her awareness, confidence, and the supportive environment around her.
The Empower HER workshop deeply reflects what we stand for.
We remain committed to advocating that:
#GirlsShouldKnowFromYoung — their rights, their health, and their worth.
