The Proton eMas 5 has been spotted once more on public roads, this time near Da Men Mall in Subang Jaya. Wrapped in monochrome camouflage, this unit comes with a different trade plate than the one seen earlier, hinting at multiple prototypes in testing. We now get a clearer look at its 16-inch four-spoke wheels, which match those on the Geely Star Wish (Xingyuan) – the Chinese EV that the eMas 5 is based on. While Proton has yet to share official specs, the Star Wish is powered by a rear motor producing up to 116 PS and 150 Nm, paired with either a 30.12-kWh or 40.16-kWh LFP battery offering up to 410 km of range (CLTC). In China, the model sells for around RM40k–RM58k and comes loaded with features like a 14.6-inch touchscreen, ambient lighting, wireless charging, V2L, and ADAS functions including AEB. The eMas 5 is expected to debut in Malaysia in Q4 2025 as a fully imported (CBU) EV, likely priced below the eMas 7 (from RM105,800). However, current tax exemptions prevent CBU EVs from being priced under RM100k until the end of 2025. Local production at Proton’s Tanjong Malim EV plant is set to begin late next year, starting with the eMas 7, followed by the eMas 5.
