If you exclude the insane Ranger Raptor, which is in a class by itself, the Wildtrak has historically been the highest specification Ford Ranger available in Malaysia. The new Ford Ranger Platinum is currently situated between those two. This is a luxury version of the pick-up truck, as the name implies, rather than the typical rugged off-road angle.

The Ranger Platinum, which was introduced by Sime Darby Auto Connexion earlier this month, costs RM183,888 when driven without insurance. That is RM15k more than the RM168,888 Ranger Wildtrak, which has the same engine.



The engine of the Platinum is a well-known 2.0-liter Bi-Turbo diesel that produces 500 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 2,000 rpm and 210 PS at 3,750 rpm. An electronically controlled four-wheel-drive system and a regular 10-speed automatic gearbox receive the drive.

With its 20-inch alloy wheels on 255/55 tires, matrix LED headlights, silver accents on the grille, motorized roller shutter for the bed, and a flexible rack system with swing-in-place roof rails, the Platinum stands out from the competition.




The Platinum's interior has appropriate kit trim to go with its upscale setting. The interior has quilted leather upholstery, Bang & Olufsen speakers, a bigger 12.4-inch digital instrument panel, heated and ventilated seats, and 10-way power-adjustable front seats with three memory settings. Yes, B&O on a vehicle. The driving assistance package includes Active Park Assist 2.0.

In addition, the Platinum's interior includes matte wood trim, accent stitching, ambient lighting, and "Platinum" metal badges on the glove box lid and front seats. According to the Wildtrak, the 12-inch portrait-style touchscreen has wireless support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.




Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane centering, lane change warning and assistance, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert, post-collision/secondary collision brake, and evasive steer help are all included in the driver assistance pack.

AEB with pedestrian protection, reverse braking assist, rollover mitigation, trailer assist/sway assist, hill launch assist, hill descent control, and brake assist are also equipped. Seven airbags, a driver and front passenger seat belt reminder, and two Isofix child seat mounts for the backseat are all included in the passive safety kit.




Finally, the Equinox Bronze exterior paint color that is only available on the Platinum is what you are seeing here. Select between Absolute Black and Meteor Grey if you don't like brown.

The Ranger Platinum is covered by a five-year, 160,000-kilometer warranty that can be extended with Premium Care extended warranty packages to six or seven years, or up to an extra 40,000 kilometers. Add a top-up of RM2,300 to RM6,900 for this. Additionally, optional Extended Service Plans are available for RM2,982 to RM10,364.
