According to Chery Malaysia, the first Omoda E5 units have reached Port Klang and will shortly be shown to the media in advance of the model's release. This is not shocking considering that earlier this month, a few electric vehicles (EVs) equipped with right-hand drive were seen being carried on a trailer.
The Omoda E5 debut date was not disclosed by the corporation in an official announcement, although it was previously stated that it will take place in 2024. The Omoda E5 will be available as a fully-imported (CBU) EV, in contrast to the Omoda 5, which is domestically assembled (CKD) in Malaysia. It is unclear, though, if the E5 will ultimately follow the CKD route.

To refresh your memory, the Omoda E5 is the fully electric variant of the Omoda 5, which went on sale in our country in July. It made its premiere at this year's Auto Shanghai. The CLTC-compliant Omoda E5 has a range of up to 450 km and is currently available for reservation in Indonesia, where CKD production is scheduled to begin in early 2024.
Its 61 kWh lithium-ion battery, which drives a front-mounted electric motor rated at 224 PS (221 hp or 165 kW) with a 0-100 km/h duration of 7.8 seconds, is the source of this power. According to the Chinese automaker, the battery can be recharged from 20 to 80% in just 30 minutes, and the drivetrain uses as low as 15 kWh per 100 kilometers.

In terms of features, the Omoda E5 built for Malaysia will have sixteen advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) including blind spot monitoring, automated emergency braking, and rear cross traffic alert. Additionally, Chery Malaysia notes that three interior and seven exterior color options will be offered for the EV.
The face of the Omoda E5 sets it apart from the petrol-powered Omoda 5. Its closed-off grille has the brand script above the charging port door, rather than a logo. Both SUVs contain familiar interior design elements, with the exception of the EV version's center console, which has extra storage space and no gear lever.
