KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 17): Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has formalised a partnership with the Rehda Group Collaborators—Rehda Institute, Rehda Wilayah Persekutuan (Kuala Lumpur) Branch, and GreenRE Sdn Bhd—to rejuvenate Taman Botani Perdana under a people–public–private partnership model.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on Nov 15, witnessed by former Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif, alongside senior representatives from the involved organisations. Attendees included DBKL executive director of social economic development Ismadi Sakirin, Rehda Institute chairman Datuk Jeffrey Ng Tiong Lip, Rehda Wilayah Persekutuan chairlady Carrie Fong Kah Wai and GreenRE director Datuk Muztaza Mohamad.
A New Vision for Kuala Lumpur’s Oldest Public Garden
The collaboration is aimed at transforming Taman Botani Perdana into a centre for environmental learning, botanical research, community activities and urban recreation. The initiative carries strong CSR principles and aligns with various UN Sustainable Development Goals, reinforcing the park’s importance as the city’s primary green lung.
Initial phases of the partnership will involve the development of a comprehensive master plan to revitalise key zones such as:
-
Rumah Sampan
-
Hibiscus Garden
-
Orchid Garden
These upgrades are designed to enhance visitor experience while elevating the park’s ecological and cultural value.
Impact on Kuala Lumpur’s Sustainability Vision
This partnership highlights DBKL’s continued push toward sustainable city development—an agenda that also influences interest in nearby commercial property in KL and future urban planning within the Klang Valley. As developers and investors increasingly integrate ESG considerations into decision-making, especially for assets like office space in Bukit Jalil, industrial land in Selangor, factory sites in Puchong and industrial property in the Subang area, green initiatives such as this underscore KL’s commitment to long-term urban resilience.
