Known as the "Tesla killer" in certain online circles, the BYD Seal comes in three versions tailored for the Thai and Singaporean markets: the entry-level Dynamic RWD, the Premium, and the AWD Performance.
Regarding performance, the BYD Seal Dynamic RWD boasts a rear-mounted single-motor configuration generating 150 kW (203 hp) and 310 Nm. Featuring a 61.4 kWh LFP blade battery, this electric sedan can cover up to 460 km (WLTP) on a single charge.
The mid-range BYD Seal Premium also packs a rear-mounted single-motor setup, but unlike the Dynamic RWD, it puts out slightly more power at 230 kW (313 hp) and 360 Nm. The larger 82.5 kWh LFP battery also enables it to travel further at 570 km (650 km NEDC).
The top-spec AWD Performance variant packs a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup, giving the all-electric sedan a healthy dose of 530 hp and 670 Nm. The same 82.5 kWh battery pack that is also found in the Premium variant provides the all-electric sedan with 520 km (580 km NEDC) of range on a single charge.
Charging-wise, all variants of the Seal can handle a maximum AC charging rate of 7 kW. As for DC charging, the Dynamic RWD can be charged at a maximum rate of 110 kW, while the Premium and Performance variants can handle a maximum rate of 150 kW.
Having previewed and teased the BYD Seal in Malaysia so far, Sime Darby Beyond Auto, the sole distributor of the BYD brand in Malaysia, has yet to confirm which variant(s) will be offered in Malaysia upon its official launch, nor its specific launch date.
The carmaker has also sent out invitations to customers to preview its soon-to-be-launched all-electric sedan at TREC KL on January 19. Are you excited about the BYD Seal? Let us know in the comments section!
