MBPG Announces Strict Parking Ban in Residential Areas Starting January 1, 2024 Imposing RM2k Penalty"

24-Oct-2023

Berita Harian reported that the Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) will begin enforcing the ban on parking in front of homes on January 1, 2024. This was resolved during a special meeting last Wednesday, in which all council members agreed to enact the ban, according to Pasir Gudang mayor Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman.

"The period from now until December 31, 2023 will be used to raise awareness and educate all parties by issuing notices to those involved," Asman told the news outlet. He continued by saying that as an investigation must be conducted first, MBPG won't immediately give chemicals.

We will investigate the car owner and the complainant as part of our investigation. A warning will be issued to the driver of the object obstructing the path, giving them up to 21 days to make the necessary repairs. For repeated offenses, the MBPG may impose a compound of up to RM2,000 if no action is taken, according to Asman.

The prohibition was implemented as a result of the MBPG receiving 349 complaints about cars parked in front of dwellings from the start of this year until last month. There were 242 complaints filed in 2022, thus this is an increase.
