Shell Recharge's first pay-by-usage EV chargers in Malaysia are now available in the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur retail mall. The facility, located behind the Tesla Superchargers in the basement parking park, will include one 60 kW DC fast charger (twin CCS2 nozzles) and one 22 kW AC fast charger (twin type 2 nozzles), for a total of four charging bays.
While the chargers are still not working, the pricing structure has been revealed via the ParkEasy smartphone app, as discovered by SoyaCincau. However, as of the time of writing, the listing had been removed prior of its formal release.
Unlike all other chargers in the Shell Recharge EV charging network, the charging prices for the new AC and DC chargers in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur will be computed based on your actual power usage (in kWh) rather than time.
The DC chargers will cost 1.50 credits (RM1.50) per kWh, while the AC chargers will cost 1.00 credit (RM1) per kWh consumed. In addition to the power usage, each charging session will incur a 5.00 credits (RM5) confirmation fee upon charger activation.
The new Shell Recharge EV chargers in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur will also introduce an idle fee, with a 15-minute grace period, to discourage users from hogging the chargers. After the first 15 minutes, the user will be charged a 1.00 credit (RM1) fee for every five minutes that the car remains connected to the charger after it has finished charging.
Of course, the billing rates do not include the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur's existing parking fees, which start at RM3 per hour or RM8 (RM10 on weekends) per entry after 5 p.m.
There has been no official news on the chargers' formal introduction, but we suspect it won't be long as they appear to be completely operational, save for the "coming soon" banners taped to the chargers. Surprisingly, the chargers at Pavilion KL do not appear to have the app-activated obstacles found at other Shell Recharge sites.
