Proton's debut battery electric vehicle (BEV), the Proton e.MAS 7, will make its public debut on August 31, 2024, as part of Malaysia’s 67th National Day celebrations. Following this introduction, the electric SUV will embark on a path leading to its official market release by the end of the year.

At the Merdeka Day parade, the e.MAS 7 will be showcased with a special camouflage pattern reflecting the Jalur Gemilang, among a 25-car fleet featuring various Proton models.

This parade lineup will highlight Proton’s evolution over the past 41 years, from the original Proton Saga to the newly updated Proton X70.



“While honoring our history, Proton is also focusing on the future of the automotive sector. Therefore, we decided to feature the Proton e.MAS 7 in our parade lineup, even though it has not yet been launched, allowing the public to get an early look at our first BEV model,” said Dr. Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer of Proton.

“As this model is not the final production version, it will be displayed with camouflage. However, in the spirit of National Day, we have chosen colors that represent Malaysia’s flag,” he added.

In addition to its parade debut, testing and adjustments for the Proton e.MAS 7 have been ramping up since its first media reveal on August 2.

Camouflaged test cars have been seen often as the team works on durability, charging, driving, and software to make sure Malaysia’s first national BEV meets what future customers will need and expect.



Dr. Li explained, “The e.MAS 7 is not just Proton’s first BEV but also the first model developed in collaboration with Geely. This partnership allows us to bring right-hand drive versions to market faster and enhances efficiency by sharing development costs.”

“The true test of this project’s success will be how well it is received by buyers in Malaysia and our export markets. To ensure a positive outcome, Proton is thoroughly investing in every aspect of the model’s development, marketing, sales, and after-sales service,” the CEO added.
