2023 Honda CR-V Sixth-Generation Spotted Once More in Putrajaya"

22-Sep-2023

The sixth-generation Honda CR-V has been spotted undergoing road tests yet again, this time by our in-house team. Our photographer Sherman Sim, along with colleague Natasha Gill, chance to come upon the SUV, still completely camouflaged, while driving in Putrajaya near the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), and managed to get images of it.

Interestingly, the test mule has no trade plates visible; might it be undergoing JPJ vehicle type approval? We believe that even with VTA review, there should be some type of identification, therefore this is unusual.

The current sighting follows one from last month, and the increasing frequency of the car can only suggest one thing: it's moving closer to market release. Honda Malaysia said in March that it would debut four new cars this year, including the CR-V. With less than four months to go, we could see a market debut very soon.

The new CR-V, which debuted in the United States in July of last year, is somewhat larger than the fifth-generation vehicle it will replace. The enlarged dimensions result in a more roomy cabin, with back legroom improved by 15 mm.

The cabin layout is similar to the current 11th-generation Civic, with a wider center console that allows the gear lever to be placed next to the drive mode selector, hill descent control button, and electronic parking brake switch.

There is no information on the Malaysian car's equipment and specifications, but they should be similar to those seen in Thailand, where it is offered in two powertrain configurations.

The first is a 1.5L turbo petrol engine with 190 hp at 6,000 rpm and 242 torque from 1,700 rpm to 5,000 rpm, while the second is a 2.0 litre hybrid with an i-MMD powertrain layout identical to the Civic e:HEV. While the CR-V is available in Thailand in five and seven-seat configurations, the latter is unlikely to be offered here.
