DENGKIL (June 26) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government will develop dedicated housing projects for civil servants with lower rental rates, aimed at easing the financial burden caused by rising housing costs in key urban centres.
Anwar, who also serves as finance minister, said the initiative follows his visits to several states including Penang, Perak, Johor and Negeri Sembilan, where he observed that many civil servants are struggling with increasing rental expenses.

The Prime Minister noted that although civil servant salaries have been increased by between 15% and 30%, rental costs in major cities continue to rise at a faster pace, creating affordability challenges.

This mismatch between income growth and rental inflation has prompted the government to explore targeted housing solutions for public sector employees.
