The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV has been unveiled by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia after being spotted since late August in an eye-catching Merdeka-themed livery. The seven-seater arrives in Malaysia as the top-of-the-line EQS 580 4Matic, priced at RM699,888 (on-the-road without insurance, plus 10% sales tax), despite being offered in three powertrain configurations.


After the EQE and EQS sedans, this is the third model to be built on the automaker's exclusive electric architecture known as EVA (Electric Vehicle Architecture). The car shares many of the design elements found in its stablemates in terms of styling. There is a gloss black coated grille up front, along with three tiny triangles that act as recognizable daytime running lights.





The Malaysian model comes with Digital Light units as standard fitting headlamps, and a light bar runs underneath the bonnet close line. The rear lights have internal decorations in the form of a curving 3D helix, similar to the EQS sedan, and there is another light bar there. Flush, retractable door handles and lighted running boards with an aluminum finish that have been aerodynamically tailored for the vehicle are among the other design elements.

The EQS 580 in Malaysia sports an AMG Line appearance, which includes a more aggressive front bumper with black trim to highlight the lower intake as well as the bigger, slatted side intakes. The wheels are 22-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy pieces that are finished in high-gloss black paint.




The EQS 580 4Matic's dual-motor drivetrain produces 544 PS (536 horsepower or 400 kW) and 858 Nm of torque. The SUV can go up to 615 km on a single charge thanks to a floor-mounted lithium-ion battery with 12 cell modules and a 107.8 kWh energy capacity. Performance stats include a sprint timing from 0 to 100 km/h of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h.


A 22 kW AC onboard charger has been specifically selected for the EQS by MBM (the standard is 11 kW), making it the only EQ model from the manufacturer to be equipped with such a feature in this country. It takes five and a half hours to charge the battery from 0% to 100% using a 22 kW charger. With regard to DC, the EQS allows charging rates of up to 200 kW, allowing a 10-80% SoC to be reached in 31 minutes .




The car has a standard Airmatic air suspension with continuously adjustable damping ADS+, and at speeds up to 80 km/h, the ground clearance can be adjusted by up to 25 mm. Additionally, at speeds over 110 km/h in the Comfort and Sport modes, the body is automatically lowered by 10 and 15 mm, respectively, to lessen drag. Rear axle steering with a 10 degree steering angle is also included as standard equipment to improve agility.


The dashboard of the EQS SUV is identical to that of the EQS sedan inside, and screens rule the day once more. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 17.7-inch center display, and a 12.3-inch display for the front passenger are all integrated into the SUV's 141 cm-long MBUX Hyperscreen. A head-up display with a 77-inch display area is also available.





The Electric Art equipment line for the EQS 580 has seat upholstery in Nappa leather in the colors black/space grey and brown, as well as open-pore magnolia wood trim with embellishments in an aluminum design.

The second row's 40:20:40 folding split seats may be configured and adjusted electrically by up to 130 mm, giving this section knee room between 830 and 960 mm with a maximum reclining angle of 18 degrees.




With the third row of seats folded, the seven-seat (2-3-2) configuration has a load capacity of 800 liters; this rises to 2,020 liters with the second row folded as well. The boot has 195 liters of room when the second and third rows are folded down. The second seat row comes equipped with an Easy Entry feature as standard along with the third seat row. The backrest goes forward by a total of up to 290 mm beyond the normal adjustment range allowing simpler access to the entire back.

Furthermore, an MBUX Rear Seat Entertainment Plus kit has two 11.6-inch touchscreen displays mounted on the backrests of the driver and front passenger seats. A MBUX back tablet is also included with the car and can be used while not moving. Zen-like levels of travel are ensured with a 15-speaker Burmester surround sound system with Dolby Atmos and an Energising Package.




The Driving Assistance Package Plus, which includes features like Distronic Plus, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Steering Assist, Evasive manoeuvre support, Pre-Safe Impulse Side and rear sensors for the lane departure assistant, is a set of safety and driving assistance systems that come standard on the EQS SUV. Additionally, a Parking Package is available that comes equipped with a 360-degree camera.
