A long line of wealthy Malaysians are lining up to try their luck at obtaining a FL5 Honda Civic Type R, despite the fact that it costs RM400,000. According to Honda Malaysia (HM), the fishbowl is currently filled with more than 200 names.

Luck? If you didn't know, the most recent CTR is Malaysia's first vehicle to be sold through a poll. The market's allocation for this year is just 20 units, including one unit for HM's internal usage, therefore HM decided to draw names as opposed to the customary first-come, first-served manner. Considering how popular the gigantic hatch is, that's 19 keys available for grabs.




This is the SOP. One registers with a Honda dealer, pays a deposit, and all names are given to HM, who draws names from a poll. The draw, which takes place tomorrow, will reportedly be conducted internally but in accordance with audit standards. Good luck if you're vying for the position.

The FL5 Civic Type R, like its FK8 predecessor, has a KC20C1 2.0 liter turbo-four connected entirely to a six-speed manual driving the front wheels - no automatic option, and no AWD, as it should be. Malaysia's outputs, which are somewhat less than Japan's 330 PS/420 Nm, are 319 PS at 6,500 rpm and 420 Nm of torque from 2,600 to 4,000 rpm. Like Australia, this is likely owing to the poor quality of our fuel.
