New Toyota GR Corolla Features 8-Speed Automatic Transmission.

Toyota has made some updates to the GR Corolla, its larger model. The car now features a mild redesign and new performance options, including a new automatic transmission alongside the existing manual gearbox.

The GR Corolla still has its 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, which produces 304 PS at 6,500 rpm. The torque has increased by 30 Nm, reaching 400 Nm between 3,250 and 4,600 rpm. These figures are the same as those in the latest GR Yaris and the Lexus LBX Morizo RR.

The new eight-speed automatic transmission, shared with these models, is designed for quick gear changes. It adjusts based on how you use the brakes and throttle, aiming to provide shifting performance similar to that of a skilled driver.



The new gearbox comes with heat-resistant clutch materials, a better torque control system, and a compact, responsive solenoid. It also includes a launch control feature to help with faster starts. For those who prefer a manual, the GR Corolla still offers a six-speed manual transmission, now upgraded with a new dual-mass flywheel and automatic rev-matching.

No matter which version you choose, the GR Corolla keeps its GR-Four all-wheel-drive system. Like the GR Yaris, it now adjusts the torque differently: Normal mode uses a 60:40 front-to-rear split, Gravel mode is 50:50 (up from 30:70 in Sport mode), and Track mode varies from 60:40 to 30:70 based on driving conditions (previously fixed at 50:50). Front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials, once exclusive to the Circuit Edition, are now standard.

Although the previous GR Corolla already handled well, Toyota has further improved its chassis. New springs help reduce wheel lift during sharp turns for better traction, and the rear springs and anti-roll bars have been retuned for better control and grip in corners.



The rear mounting point has been raised to reduce the car's rear sag during acceleration. This helps keep the car stable and improves both acceleration and cornering.

The front bumper has been redesigned to look like the GR Yaris’s, with bigger air inlets and no fog lights to improve cooling, especially for the transmission oil cooler in automatic versions.

Top models come with an extra radiator for better engine cooling, and other models can add it as an option. There are also new brake ducts and an air curtain that helps direct air around the front wheels to reduce turbulence and improve stability.



The GR Corolla's exterior remains the same, with its distinctive features like the bulging hood, wide fenders with front vents, carbon fiber roof, large rear spoiler, and triple exhausts. Inside, it now has darker trim and switches for a sportier feel.

We don’t know yet when the updated GR Corolla will arrive in Malaysia or how much it will cost. The old model is priced at RM355,000.
