Identification of Common Ticks
Learn about the main tick species, signs of infestation, and our professional tick control methods to protect your family and pets.
Reddish-brown body (2–5 mm), elongated shape
Commonly found on dogs and in kennels. They hide in cracks, carpets, and upholstery, feeding on animal and human blood. Can transmit Babesiosis and Ehrlichiosis.
Dark brown with white or gray markings
Prefers outdoor grassy areas. Known carriers of Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Tularemia. Adult ticks feed on larger hosts such as dogs and humans.
Reddish-orange body with dark legs (2–3 mm)
Often found in wooded or shaded areas. This species is the primary vector of Lyme disease, posing serious health risks to both humans and pets.
Brown with a distinctive white spot on the female’s back
Common in vegetation and wooded areas. Known to cause Alpha-Gal Syndrome, an allergic reaction to red meat triggered by its bite.
Signs of Tick Infestation
Ticks are often hard to detect until infestations become serious. Watch for these warning signs:
- Frequent scratching, biting, or licking in pets.
- Visible ticks on pets, bedding, or curtains.
- Itchy red bite marks on humans, especially around ankles and legs.
- Unexplained rashes, fever, or fatigue after outdoor activity.
These are strong indicators of a tick presence in your environment. Immediate professional intervention can prevent health complications and reinfestation.
