KLIA Aerotrain Undergoes Nightly Safety and Efficiency Inspections

SEPANG (Nov 7, 2025) — The aerotrain service at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 will undergo nightly inspection and rectification works between 12am and 5am to ensure continued safety, operational efficiency, and passenger comfort, according to Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).

During the inspection period, shuttle buses will run at full capacity to provide uninterrupted transfers between terminals. KLIA emphasized that these measures are part of its ongoing efforts to enhance reliability and safety standards following the system’s full restoration earlier this year.

“These nightly checks form part of our commitment to maintaining a world-class airport experience for all passengers,” KLIA said in a statement posted on its official Facebook page.

The KLIA aerotrain, which connects Terminal 1 with the satellite building, was suspended in March 2023 after a technical failure prompted a comprehensive maintenance and upgrading programme.

Following a RM456 million refurbishment, the fully driverless system resumed full operations on July 1, 2025, as part of MAHB’s broader RM742 million airport transformation initiative.

The upgrade introduced advanced automation, enhanced passenger capacity, and improved energy efficiency, marking a key milestone in KLIA’s positioning as a top regional aviation hub.

The nightly inspections will include system diagnostics, safety verifications, and infrastructure checks to ensure smooth operations during the day.
