KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 1): Intel Corporation has committed an additional RM860 million investment to establish Malaysia as its key assembly and test operations hub, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced on Monday.
The move underscores Intel’s confidence in Malaysia’s long-term industrial planning under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030, and strengthens the nation’s position in high-tech manufacturing. The investment complements the company’s advanced packaging facility in Penang, which has involved RM12 billion in capital expenditure and is now nearly complete at 99%.
Anwar highlighted Intel’s ongoing collaboration with local education and training institutions through elective programmes and research and development initiatives, which have received RM2.8 million in funding over the past two years.
“These investments demonstrate Intel’s trust in Malaysia as a strategic partner for innovation, talent development, and competitiveness in the global semiconductor supply chain,” the Prime Minister said.
The expansion is expected to have positive implications for industrial real estate in Penang and surrounding commercial zones, supporting ancillary facilities, logistics operations, and high-value supply chain activities across Malaysia.
