373 Evacuated After Monorail Train Stalls Near Medan Tuanku in Kuala Lumpur

21-Nov-2025

A Kuala Lumpur monorail service disruption on Thursday morning led to the evacuation of 373 passengers after a train stalled between Medan Tuanku and Titiwangsa stations. The incident, caused by a power supply interruption, temporarily halted commuter movement along one of the city’s busiest monorail stretches.

According to Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohamad Remi Che Hat, the department received an emergency alert via NG999 at 9.39am, and a team of five firefighters from the Titiwangsa station was deployed within minutes.

“When our team arrived at 9.42am, the situation was already under control as maintenance staff were assisting with passenger transfers,” he said.

During the evacuation, a 58-year-old woman fainted, but she later recovered after receiving immediate care from Health Ministry medical personnel present at the scene.

Rapid Rail Restores Service by Late Morning

Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd confirmed that the stalled train—Train No. 25—came to an abrupt stop at around 8.50am, prompting the activation of alternative transportation measures.

To minimise disruption, Rapid Rail:

  • Directed passengers to Medan Tuanku Station

  • Activated supplementary train services

  • Deployed free shuttle buses

  • Mobilised engineering teams to tow the defective train to the depot for inspection

Full monorail operations resumed at 11.33am. The operator apologised for the inconvenience and thanked commuters for their patience.

Relevance to Kuala Lumpur’s Urban & Commercial Corridors

Incidents along major transit lines like the monorail can have ripple effects on mobility across the city, particularly in areas with dense commercial and business activity. This includes key property markets such as:

  • Commercial property in KL, especially around Chow Kit, Bukit Bintang and Jalan Sultan Ismail

  • Office space in Bukit Jalil, which relies heavily on connected transit networks

  • Property hotspots tied to logistics and urban infrastructure, including industrial land in Selangor, factory areas in Puchong, and industrial property in the Subang area

Efficient, reliable public transport remains a critical driver of property demand and urban liveability across Greater Kuala Lumpur.
