11kV OUTDOOR Termination Kits

To install an 11kV outdoor termination kit,prepare the cable by cleaning it and removing the outer jacket, then the insulation to expose the conductor.Apply stress control, install the appropriate termination (cold or heat shrink), attach the lug, and secure the rain sheds for outdoor insulation and tracking protection.

1. Cable Preparation

Clean the cable:

Thoroughly clean the medium voltage (MV) high voltage (HV) cable using cable cleaning wipes.

Remove insulation:

Cut the cable to the specified length, then remove the outer and insulating layers of the XLPE cable.

Prepare for lug:

Expose the conductor for the cable lug by stripping the insulation at the termination point.

2. Termination Installation

Cold Shrink Method:

Place the termination body over the 11kV cable end.

Remove the inner core, which allows the termination to shrink onto the cable.

Once the inner core is removed, the installation is complete.

Heat Shrink Method (General Steps)

Install the stress control tube to manage the electrical field at the cable end.

Wrap electrical tape around the cable to enhance insulation.

Use specialized tools to "shrink" the termination onto the cable end, creating a tight and electrically sound seal.

3. Lug Attachment

Use appropriate lugs:Connect the cable lug to the prepared conductor.

Crimp or Shearbolt:Crimp-type or mechanical shearbolt lugs are suitable for this purpose.

Water-blocking:Choose lugs with water-blocking features to prevent moisture ingress into the cable.

4. Outdoor Specifics

Rain Sheds:

Install rain sheds on the termination to provide additional insulation and protection from outdoor elements, preventing moisture tracking and flashover.

Tapes:

Use 3M Scotch electrical tapes for enhanced insulation and to add an extra layer of protection for the medium voltage cable in an outdoor environment.
