Top 10 Major Server Trends for Dell Technologies in 2021

08-Jul-2025

Dell Server Malaysia 2021

In the server market, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Edge, and Cloud Architecture continue to inject “fresh blood”. In 2021, what hot trends will impact server technology and products?

To participate in the survey, Dell Technologies invited senior technical experts from the group’s internal servers. They assembled a server growth pattern and observation study for 2021 based on thoroughly listening to the opinions of the experts. Let us peek at the experts’ top 10 predictions.

1) New Business theme becomes As A Service

Enterprise customers need to concentrate on differentiated market outcomes with the most desirable price-performance ratio and maintenance costs. Also, they can focus on other market outcomes with the continuous development in technology speed. Besides, choosing a prefabricated infrastructure as a service (as a Service) product enables consumers to concentrate on their business value. Moreover, enterprises can protect their data through a trusted infrastructure across multiple implementations flexibly.

2) Server growth is Building Vertically

The industry will continue to see more verticalization and specialization of services. Consumers nowadays are searching for the most productive outcomes from their infrastructure. The realization of the software ecosystem and accelerators will meet unique performance and functional criteria for specific business outcomes in particular areas.

3) More Data, More Intelligent

Data speed, volume, and volatility problems continue. For research, AI/ML needs to continue to be used when paying more attention to addressing problems in the data life cycle. Therefore, the key to promoting and achieving the monetization of the “Internet of Behaviors” would be the convergence of data processing models, transmission methods, storage and security architectures, and quicker research.

4) The Self-Driving Server Emergence

Customers will start to see the use of telemetry, research, and strategy in their system management infrastructure. This is to reach a higher degree of automation. In addition, the AI operation and maintenance capabilities with system management will usher in the era of turning automated tasks into automatic decision-making. Also to close to the driving assistance/autonomous driving stage of autonomous vehicles. Furthermore, its implementation is embodied in the solution of system power loss and strategy consulting suggestion engines.

5) Goodbye, Software Defined. Hello, Software-Defined with Hardware Offload

The application architecture is continuously evolving to maintain the separation of the control plane and the data plane. The control plane remains on the software layer while the data plane is moved to programmable hardware in the form of a service processor add-on card. This allows bare metal and containerized applications and decomposed infrastructure software. For example, virtualization of the network, virtualization of storage, and virtualization of the GPU, security services. This is to run together to create intent-based customer workload calculations.

6) There’s 5G here! Seriously, this year has come.

We will see the proliferation of 5G after many years of speculation and promises. It will be accompanied by a paradigm shift around communication networks, remote management models, and connections, impacting the size and role of servers. On top of that, 5G would force consumers to re-evaluate their edge networking and infrastructure management products to take advantage of 5G technologies. As businesses will build more edge infrastructure in order to handle the generation and flow of data.

7) Rethinking Memory and Storage to be Data-Centric

The industry is evolving from a computing-centric architecture to a data-centric architecture. In the IT industry, this change is pushing a new server-connected storage and memory model. Besides that, innovative IT architecture is being built around the technology of permanent, encrypted, and layered memory within the server. Also, the technology of remote access to SCM and NVMe data via the latest industry structure standard. The purpose is to achieve the best data protection, expansion, and preservation.

8) Adopting new Server technology while Being Remote

The world has changed, and businesses are being pushed not only to prepare for digital transformation but also to make it happen. Companies that deal more efficiently with the digital transformation of instruments, procedures, and technology need to collaborate with remote work teams. Thus, this transition pushes businesses to evaluate emerging server technology and evaluate resource requirements, which will emphasize the need to remotely use server functions to maintain business continuity around debugging telemetry, and analysis.

9) It’s not a Processor competition, it’s a Bake-off Recipe.

The processor landscape is evolving. It is becoming an area of distinction between acquisition, specialization, and supplier. We see Intel, AMD and Nvidia are all making acquisitions for their respective product portfolios to include CPUs, DPUs, and accelerators. Therefore, the true winners are able to use their combination of silicon products and software libraries to help customers maximize business performance. This is to shape recipes of integrated offerings for targeted workloads.

10) Measure the index of confidence in IT

The security around server access and data protection has never been more difficult. Therefore, customers need to evaluate their trust in security to assess infrastructure credibility and recognize digital risks. Customers need to examine the sources and functions of goods, emerging security technology, and segment real digital threats in the tighter regulations. This is to establish their measurement criteria for IT confidence from the edge to the center to the cloud.
