U Mobile, Malaysia’s next-generation 5G network provider, has signed a Term Sheet to appoint Celcom Timur Sabah (CT Sabah) as its official fibre leasing partner for the upcoming U Mobile 5G rollout in Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan. CT Sabah is one of the region’s leading providers of high-speed fibre optic infrastructure, making it a key enabler for the expansion of advanced digital connectivity in East Malaysia.
According to U Mobile, once the Definitive Agreement is finalised, the telco will leverage CT Sabah’s strong and extensive fibre network to accelerate its 5G deployment and deliver high-capacity, ultra-fast connectivity to both businesses and consumers in the region.
Strengthening 5G Infrastructure in East Malaysia
As part of this partnership, CT Sabah will:
-
Upgrade existing 4G leased circuit sites to 5G
-
Develop additional leased circuit sites to meet U Mobile’s 5G requirements
-
Provide access to its 10,000km fibre network across Sabah and Labuan
This infrastructure support ensures U Mobile’s upcoming 5G rollout is built on a foundation of stability, scalability, and high performance — essential for powering Malaysia’s next generation of digital services, IoT solutions, cloud applications, and enterprise connectivity.
A Major Step Forward for Malaysia’s 5G Expansion
U Mobile CTO Woon Ooi Yuen stated that the collaboration strengthens U Mobile’s ability to accelerate nationwide 5G coverage while delivering a superior and reliable 5G experience.
“With CT Sabah on board, it further strengthens our ability to meet rollout goals and deliver a superior 5G experience that supports massive capacity and ultra-fast speeds for enterprises and consumers across Malaysia.”
He added that U Mobile is ready to take on a stronger role in bridging the digital divide, aligned with the national ambition of building a high-income digital nation.
Advancing Digital Connectivity in Sabah & Labuan
CT Sabah CEO Zurinah Datuk Hanafiah emphasised the importance of the partnership in driving regional digital transformation:
“We view the 5G rollout as a critical step towards unlocking new opportunities for Sabah and Labuan. This initiative will enable digital transformation, drive economic growth, and improve the quality of life for communities.”
