DC Grid Aims To Fill EV Charging Power Vacuum

Frustrated with the combination of what its founder terms inefficiencies of AC-power systems and red tape from municipalities and utilities to build an infrastructure to power electric vehicle charging stations and artificial intelligence data centers, a new company providing off-grid power is stepping in to fill the gap.

Officially launching today, Mountain View, California-based DC Grid is offering modular, direct current power generators using energy sources such as solar, renewable natural gas and biogas.

Founder Vic Shao cites his experiences running other energy companies such as Amply Power and Green Charge network as the basis for creating DC Grid.

 

“After 15 years of this, it’s like a lot of these clean tech innovations and adoption are being choked by just bureaucracy and the slow process of getting assets online, and that’s the problem, and there just has to be a solution and alternative, if industries like EVs and data centers now also that are soaking up a lot of power, for these industries to scale up,” said Shao, in an interview.

The alternative DC Grid aims to provide are modular systems that can be installed within three months for EV charging hubs and 12-18 months for AI-driven data center.
