Compression Test on EPE Foam - Obsnap Calibration Sdn Bhd

Compression Test on EPE Foam

02-Apr-2026

Recently, we supported a customer from the packaging industry to evaluate the compression performance of EPE foam (Expanded Polyethylene), commonly used for cushioning and protective packaging.

For packaging materials, compression performance is critical because the foam must be able to absorb load and maintain its shape during stacking, handling, and transportation.

Test Requirement

The customer required the foam to achieve:

• 25% compression strain

• with a resulting pressure of 32 kPa

 Test Method

Compression testing is performed by placing the foam specimen between two compression platens. A controlled load is applied until the sample reaches the specified deformation level (in this case, 25% thickness reduction).

The system measures the force applied, and the pressure is calculated based on:

Pressure (kPa) = Force (N) / Area (mm²)

This provides a clear indication of the foam’s resistance to compression and its ability to support loads in real packaging applications.

Test Result

During testing, the EPE foam achieved:

32 kPa at 25% compression

This indicates the material meets the customer’s specification and is suitable for cushioning performance under the required loading condition.

Compression testing helps manufacturers ensure consistent foam quality, improve packaging reliability, and reduce product damage during logistics.

Feel free to reach out to OBSNAP for compression testing or technical support for packaging material evaluation.
