Betamek Bhd, the automotive parts manufacturer that mainly supplies audio systems and various digital-related parts for Perodua, recently unveiled an auto telematics system at a Daihatsu exhibition in Osaka, Japan.Co-developed with Perodua, Betamek’s telematics system features over-the-air (OTA) software updates, which enables vehicles to receve the newest enhancements without the need for physial service centre visits.

“From remote vehicle management to real-time tracking, these innovations enhance safety, convenience, and performance. The ability to receive updates wirelessly through OTA technology ensures vehicles remain at the cutting edge without any hassle,” said Betamek executive director Muhammad Fauzi Abd Ghani in a statement.
OTA updates are not a new feature but for a brand largely associated with producing budget-conscious products, it would place Perodua on par with other mainstream brands.

Among the smart features offered in Betamek’s telematics system include remote vehicle control through a smartphone application (locking doors, starting the engine, adjusting air conditioning settings), real-time tracking and geo-fencing capabilities, as well as accident alerts and an emergency E-Call system.

Betamek’s telematics system also supports smart charging management for battery electric vehicles (BEVs), allowing users to schedule charging, locate charging stations, and monitor charging status. This system is being developed at a time when Perodua is on the verge of producing its very first BEV.
