Under the programme, the subsidy amount depends on the size of the solar installation: RM12,000 for systems above 6kWac up to 50kWac, RM10,000 for systems above 3.5kWac up to 6kWac, and RM8,000 for systems between 2kWac and 3.5kWac. To ensure safety and quality, all NEM installations must be carried out by installers certified as Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Designers by the Electrical Inspectorate Unit (EIU) under the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak. Applications must be submitted to SEB’s Customer Service Counter on behalf of the customers. The subsidy applies only to successful NEM installations from 2026, under the Domestic Tariff category for landed residential properties. It is limited to one installation per account owner and excludes households that already have solar PV systems installed. Customers who signed NEM contracts this year may still submit claims via Syarikat Sesco Bhd for review. If approved, payments will be disbursed starting January next year. SEB stated that this initiative is designed to lower upfront solar installation costs, making rooftop solar more accessible to homeowners, enabling long-term energy savings, and contributing to environmental sustainability. The subsidies are first-come, first-served, subject to quota availability. The NEM scheme allows homeowners with solar PV systems to generate electricity, export excess power to the grid, and earn credits on their bills—reducing monthly costs while supporting Sarawak’s renewable energy goals and Malaysia’s carbon reduction efforts. This programme also aligns with the Sarawak government’s Energy Transition Policy (SET-P), which promotes wider renewable energy adoption and decarbonisation to drive sustainable growth. To raise awareness, SEB will participate in the MPSEA Solar Roadshow on Sept 22 at Sheraton Hotel Kuching, where the public can learn more and explore participation opportunities. For further information on the subsidy and application process, visit Sarawak Energy’s official NEM page, contact the 24/7 Customer Care Centre at 1-300-88-3111, reach out via the SEB Cares mobile app, email customercare@sarawakenergy.com, or visit any SEB customer service counter.
