Ultraviolet light has a spectral range of 100 to 400 nanometers (nm), with germicidal wavelengths in the 100-280 nm range.

Single-wavelength far UV-C light at 222nm generated by filtered excimer lamps is able to inactivate airborne viruses without inducing biological damage in exposed human cells and tissue.
