What Is a Jersey Barrier?

Jersey barriers are modular concrete or plastic barriers used primarily to separate vehicle traffic, notably on highways and during construction activities. Designed to minimize vehicle damage and dramatically reduce the risk of head-on collisions, they redirect vehicles gently back into their lane—or deflect them off the road—depending on the angle of impact.
