The Proton Iriz has officially reached the end of its journey, with the last unit – body number #97576 – rolling off the Tanjong Malim plant on September 9, 2025. While Proton has yet to make a public announcement, this quietly ends the company’s hatchback line for the first time since the Satria in 1994. Launched in 2014 with the tagline “Betul2 Onz”, the Iriz was positioned as a “Myvi killer”, built on the 2010 EMAS concept and priced from RM42,438 to RM62,888. Despite its focus on safety, the car was quickly overshadowed by the Perodua Axia, launched just ten days earlier. The Iriz never fulfilled its global ambitions, missing out on exports and promised EV or turbo versions, though it did find life as an R5 rally car in the UK. Proton kept it alive with facelifts in 2019 and 2021, while its sedan sibling, the Persona, proved more successful and is expected to continue production. After 11 years, the Iriz leaves behind a mixed but fond legacy, remembered as a bold attempt that never quite toppled the Myvi but still earned a place in Proton’s history.
