Chery Malaysia has officially teased the arrival of the Chery O5, a vehicle that will be familiar to many as the facelifted Omoda 5. The company has opened registrations of interest for the SUV, which is scheduled to make its Malaysian debut later this month.
The rebranding from Omoda 5 to Chery O5 is a key highlight, as it marks the model’s integration into the main Chery brand. This move is to align with Chery's corporate structure in Malaysia, where Omoda | Jaecoo operates as a separate entity. Despite the new name, t vehicle will still carry the "Omoda" word mark on its face, a design choice also seen on the model launched in Indonesia, where it is known as the Chery C5.
The O5 introduces a number of significant updates, starting with a fresh new look. The front fascia has been reprofiled with a revised bumper and a new grille that replaces the previous chrome-studded design with body-colored squares. The vehicle also sports a new 18-inch wheel design. A subtle but noticeable change is the removal of the red accents that previously adorned the bumpers, door mirrors, spoiler, and wheels, which are now finished in black for a more subdued aesthetic.

Under the hood, the O5 retains its 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, which delivers 156 hp and 230 Nm of torque. However, a major mechanical change is the replacement of the previous nine-virtual ratio CVT with a new six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Furthermore, the rear suspension has been upgraded from a torsion beam setup to a more advanced multi-link system, a change that promises to improve the vehicle's ride comfort and handling.

Inside, the cabin design remains consistent with the pre-facelift model. Key features include a full-width air vent design and a widescreen display panel consisting of twin 10.25-inch screens, marketed as a "20.5-inch integrated dual-screen." The infotainment system will continue to support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Expected equipment levels should mirror the outgoing model's two trim levels. Mentioned features include faux leather upholstery, ventilated seats, dual-zone automatic air-conditioning, a voice assistant, an eight-speaker Sony audio system, and a wireless mobile charger.
On the safety front, the O5 is well-equipped with six airbags, a Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite, and a 540-degree camera system for enhanced all-around visibility.

Full specifications and pricing details are expected to be announced when the Chery O5 officially launches in Malaysia later this month.
