In line with the push towards a cashless and digital-first environment, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has officially introduced cashless payment facilities at all its service counters nationwide. Customers can now make payments using Touch ‘n Go, GrabPay, MAE and Boost. According to JPJ, the shift began in 2024 with a pilot project at JPJ Kuala Lumpur, which saw encouraging adoption. Since then, the initiative has been rolled out in stages nationwide, with 1,183 electronic data capture (EDC) terminals and the M-Device application activated at counters. From February to March 2025, intensive training was conducted for JPJ officers to familiarise them with payment acceptance procedures, MySikap reporting, and transaction monitoring. The department reported that in 2024, there were 43.01 million non-cash transactions amounting to RM4.87 billion. Of this, 805 e-wallet transactions worth RM73,109.20 were carried out at counters. As for 2025 (up to August 24), JPJ has already recorded 46.5 million non-cash transactions with RM5.6 billion collected. E-wallet payments at counters and via the MyJPJ app have risen sharply to 245,626 transactions, totalling RM19.6 million. JPJ said this move will further encourage cashless transactions, help reduce dependence on cash, enhance financial security, and support the government’s vision of a cashless working environment.
