Proton has shown its new electric car, the e.MAS 5, to the media before its official launch in October 2025. This car will be launched after Proton finishes its MISI 5 road tour around Malaysia.

The e.MAS 5 is a small electric car, but it offers a lot of space inside. It is 4,135 mm long with a 2,650 mm wheelbase, and Proton says it can comfortably fit five adults. The car has a flat rear floor, which makes the back seats more comfortable. For storage, the boot gives you 375 litres, and you can get up to 1,320 litres when you fold the back seats. There’s also a 70-litre front trunk (frunk) and a small storage hatch under the back seats.

There will be two versions of the car: Prime and Premium. Each has a different battery size and driving range. The Prime version can go up to 225 km, while the Premium version can go up to 325 km on a full charge. The Premium uses a 40.16 kWh battery. Both models support 6.6 kW AC charging, but DC fast charging is faster on the Premium (up to 71 kW). It can charge from 30% to 80% in just 21 minutes.

The Premium version also looks sportier, with a black roof, two-tone steering wheel, and 16-inch wheels (15-inch for Prime). Both versions come with LED lights at the front and back.
One special thing about the e.MAS 5 is that it’s rear-wheel drive, which is rare for a car in this price range. The electric motor is at the back and gives 114 PS and 150 Nm of torque. The car can go from 0 to 50 km/h in 3.9 seconds, which is great for city driving. It also has rear multi-link suspension for better comfort and handling.

Although the e.MAS 5 is based on a Geely car, Proton says it is not a copy-paste model. The car’s chassis is stronger, it is right-hand drive, and the suspension is tuned for Malaysian roads. The turning radius is only 4.95 metres, making it easy to drive in small spaces.
For safety, the e.MAS 5 comes with six airbags and 12 advanced driving features, such as:
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Automatic Emergency Braking
- Lane Departure Warning
- Blind Spot Detection
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Door Opening Warning, and more.

Inside the car, there is a large 14.6-inch touchscreen and a 8.8-inch digital display for the driver. It uses Proton’s latest ATLAS system, which supports Bahasa Melayu, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and includes an app store. One unique feature is Proton’s own e.MAS mobile app, which shows EV charging stations and allows users to pay for charging in one app, without using third-party apps.

The Premium version also includes extra features like leatherette seats, keyless entry, crystal gear knob, dual-zone air-cond, and a 6-speaker sound system.
Proton has not shared the price yet, but more details will come closer to the launch. If priced well, the e.MAS 5 could be a popular choice for Malaysians who want an affordable, safe, and smart electric car built for local needs.
