Proton eMas 7 Set for Official Launch on December 16

10-Dec-2024

Proton announced on its social media that the eMas 7, the company’s first electric vehicle (EV), will officially launch on December 16. That’s less than a week away, marking the end of its long teaser period.

Currently, the eMas 7 is on display at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) 2024, featuring a new ‘Nadi’ wrap. If you’d like to see it up close, you can visit MITEC in KL before the show ends tomorrow, December 11.

Proton opened bookings for the eMas 7 back in October during its interior reveal at ACE 2024. Since then, we’ve had the chance to test drive it at Proton’s high-speed track in Shah Alam. The eMas 7, which shares its design with the Geely Galaxy E5, is shaping up to be a strong competitor to the BYD Atto 3, Malaysia’s top-selling EV.

The Proton eMas 7 comes in two variants: the base Prime and the top-spec Premium. The Prime is equipped with a 49.52 kWh Geely Aegis short blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, offering a WLTP-rated range of 345 km (a commendable choice by Proton to use the more realistic WLTP cycle instead of the higher NEDC rating of 410 km or the overly optimistic CLTC). Meanwhile, the Premium features a larger 60.22 kWh battery, providing a range of 410 km (470 km on NEDC).

Both variants support AC charging up to 11 kW. The Prime takes 4.9 hours to charge from 30% to 80% state of charge (SoC), while the Premium takes 6.1 hours. For faster charging, the Premium supports DC charging up to 100 kW, while the Prime tops out at 80 kW. Using DC fast charging, both variants can go from 30% to 80% SoC in just 20 minutes. Proton also highlights that a 10-minute charge can add 135 km of range. Additionally, both models come with V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) capability.

On the tech front, the eMas 7 includes live charging map integration in its infotainment system, covering 1,461 chargers from Malaysia’s leading charge point operators (CPOs). This accounts for 85% of all chargers nationwide and provides real-time details like charger availability and pricing. This feature, introduced by Pro-Net and first seen in the smart #1, adds significant convenience for EV users.

Proton has shared an estimated price of around RM120,000 for the eMas 7, their C-segment electric SUV. At this price, you’re getting a lot of value with features like a 16-speaker, 1,000W audio system, ventilated front seats with memory function, and a heads-up display (HUD). It’s a competitive package, even compared to petrol-powered SUVs like the Honda HR-V and Toyota Corolla Cross.

For now, this is all we can reveal – images of the car without camouflage are under embargo until the official launch, where the final price will also be announced. Proton is offering an Early Bird Offer! Enjoy RM500 off through the Pioneer Privilege Deals and a Pioneer Gift Pack worth RM1,000 when you book now. The offer until the official launch. Don’t miss out!
