It looks like we'll get to see Proton's first-ever all-electric car, the e.MAS, much sooner than expected. Originally planned to launch in the fourth quarter of the year, Proton is now teasing the car on social media and will reveal it on Friday, August 2, 2024.
A recent shadowy image shows the side profile of the Proton e.MAS, confirming it's based on the Geely Galaxy E5, as speculated before. The teaser poster, released yesterday, features the number 3, hinting at the car's debut this Friday.
Proton recently gave a sneak peek at several versions of their upcoming Proton e.MAS vehicles: a sedan, hatchback, and SUV. The sedan is likely based on the Proton S70, which is now electric. Details about the hatchback are still unclear. The SUV, based on the Geely Galaxy E5, will lead Proton's new electric vehicle lineup.
The Proton e.MAS SUV will share its basic setup with the Geely Galaxy E5, featuring a single-motor front-wheel drive system with 218 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. It will offer two battery options: a smaller 49.52 kWh battery for 440 km of range and a larger 60.22 kWh battery for 530 km of range (CLTC).
Proton unveiled its e.MAS sub-brand in June 2024 and is currently working on a complete system for electric cars, with around 17 dealerships already selected. Proton seems ready to launch its first electric model soon, possibly named the Proton e.MAS7 based on trademark filings.
