Chery Malaysia has opened its new factory in Shah Alam, Selangor. It's the first plant in Malaysia to assemble Chery vehicles locally, and it's also the first in ASEAN to produce the Jaecoo J7 SUV.
Located strategically in the Shah Alam industrial zone, the Chery Corporate Malaysia Factory is conveniently close to local suppliers crucial for its supply chain. It's also near Malaysia’s busiest port, the second largest in Southeast Asia, enhancing the company's capability to export to ASEAN countries in the future.

The factory celebrated its opening by producing the first Jaecoo J7 AWD SUV. Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Yang Berhormat Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, and China’s Minister of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Dr Jin Zhuanglong, were present for the occasion.
Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Automobile Co. Ltd, stated that Malaysia is a crucial market for Chery. He expressed a commitment to long-term growth with local partners and customers. The factory launch represents a positive step forward for Malaysia's automotive industry and economy. With a strong service network established with local dealers, Chery aims to offer high-quality vehicles with advanced technology and exceptional customer service in Malaysia.

Chery Malaysia also held a tour of its new facility, showcasing its technologies and its stringent quality control process applied to the Jaecoo vehicles. The Jaecoo J7 All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and Two-Wheel Drive (2WD) variants will be the inaugural models assembled at the Shah Alam facility.
The new factory has created 500 new jobs, with the possibility of more as demand increases. Across Malaysia, Chery has created over 1,000 jobs through its local operations. The brand also operates 100 sales and service centers nationwide.

Following the opening of the new production facility, the launch of Jaecoo's off-road SUV, the J7, in Malaysia will soon follow. This event is scheduled over three days, from July 19 to 21, 2024.
Currently, the Shah Alam plant exclusively assembles the Jaecoo J7. The Chery Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro SUVs will continue to be assembled at Inokom’s manufacturing facility in Kulim, Kedah.
