Proton has also managed to cross the 100,000 unit barrier for the sixth year in consecutive years in 2023, one month earlier than it did in 2022. Four models are still leading YTD sales for each segment out of the 13,955 automobiles that were sold last month.
Included in this is the Proton X90, which has led the D-segment SUV category's sales both monthly and year to date. Roslan Abdullah, the chief executive officer of Proton Edar, anticipates that the company's 2022 record for total industry volume (TUV) would be broken. Proton's market share is expected to be 18.8% for the month of August and 20.8% for the year as a whole, according to the brand's TIV for August, which was reported to be 74,200 vehicles. Additionally, Proton said that the company's volume growth continues to outpace its TIV, which is currently anticipated to be 12.2% for 2023.

As Proton and other brands continue to compete for customers, Malaysia's automotive sector, which broke records in volume the previous year, is on track to do so again in 2023. The large number of newly introduced products reflects the upbeat attitude of consumers, and with many more models expected to debut by the end of December, we anticipate that the market will continue to be extremely competitive, according to Roslan Abdullah.
"For Proton, our sales growth is a reflection of how the company's focus on delivering better-quality products together with a premium experience delivered by the 154 3S/4S dealerships in our network, have a favorable impact on customers," says the company. The recent announcement that Proton Test Labs has received ISO 17025 accreditation, along with the company's upcoming entry into the electric vehicle market with smart Malaysia, will serve as a boost to these efforts moving ahead, according to the CEO.
