Proton is taking a major step forward in localising high-tech components for its upcoming models by signing four joint ventures and two technical agreements with Chinese suppliers currently serving brands like Geely, Chery, and Volvo. These partnerships aim to strengthen Proton’s local supply chain, accelerate the localisation of components for both ICE and EV models, and introduce new technologies into Malaysia’s automotive ecosystem. Local vendors will also benefit by improving their technical expertise and global competitiveness.

Among the key collaborations, Delloyd Technology will work with Imotion Automotive Technology to develop ADAS systems for the upcoming Proton AMA01. PEPS JV teams up with Liuzhou Sanly to enhance brake systems for the AMA01 and X-Series. JHM Consolidation is partnering with Jiangsu Dekai for advanced headlamp technology, while long-time vendor Trillion Speed collaborates with Shanghai Yinlun to bring in HVAC innovations and create job opportunities locally.



The two technical agreements include a partnership between SHJ Interia and Changchun Fawsn to co-develop interior technologies and set up a local R&D centre, and another between Xenso Electronics and Freetech Intelligent Systems to create high-precision ADAS systems for blind spot monitoring and lane change assist.

Proton’s Chief Procurement Officer, Wang Huaibing, emphasised that these efforts are crucial to reduce costs, enhance local skills, and support the country’s ambition to become a regional automotive hub through the Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV) initiative.
