Honda Malaysia Recalls 36,000 Vehicles, Including Civic and CR-V, Over Steering Issues.

06-Nov-2024

Honda Malaysia has issued a recall for approximately 36,000 vehicles, including the Civic, Civic Type R, and CR-V, due to a steering safety concern. The models affected are the 11th-generation Civic (2022-2024), Civic Type R FL5 (2023-2024), and sixth-generation CR-V (2024).

The problem is with the electric power steering (EPS) gearbox, where the worm wheel may swell, which reduces the thickness of the grease inside. This can lead to strange steering noises or a sticky/stiff steering feel. To resolve this, Honda Malaysia plans to replace the faulty EPS gearbox with an updated version.

Honda Malaysia apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and reassures customers that other current models, such as the City, WR-V, and HR-V, are not affected by this recall. The company will fully cover the costs for inspection, repair, or replacement of the affected parts. The replacement parts will become available in stages starting from December 2024.

All affected customers will receive a letter with details on the recall and instructions on what to do next. Once they receive the letter, customers are advised to contact an authorized Honda dealer to arrange an inspection or repair as necessary.

For more information or to check whether their vehicle is affected, owners can call Honda Malaysia’s toll-free number at 1-800-88-2020, visit the recall website at productrecall.honda.com.my, or get in touch with any authorized Honda dealer.
