Malaysia, South Korea Expected to Ink MoU on Clean Energy Cooperation by Year-end

27-Aug-2025

BUSAN, Aug 27 — Malaysia and South Korea are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to deepen collaboration in the energy sector, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He said the MOU is expected to be signed in October or November this year in conjunction with the 46th ASEAN Summit.

“We hope to sign the MOU with South Korea to explore cooperation in clean energy technology, including nuclear energy and more. This will include human capital development, technology transfer, as well as aspects of safety, energy security and other related areas,” he told reporters after a visit to Doosan Enerbility here today.

Fadillah is currently on an official working trip in Busan, South Korea, until Aug 29, in conjunction with the 15th APEC Energy Ministers’ Meeting (APEC EMM15).

According to the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, from January-July 2025, Malaysia was South Korea’s 11th largest trading partner and its 11th largest export destination.

Total trade between the two countries was valued at US.69 billion, with South Korea’s exports to Malaysia amounting to US.91 billion, a 15.2 per cent increase from the same period in 2024.

Malaysia’s exports to South Korea stood at US.77 billion, up 12.9 per cent from the corresponding period in 2024. Total trade between Malaysia and South Korea reached US.42 billion in 2024.
