88% of MM2H applications approved from Nov 2021 to Sept 30 this year, Dewan Rakyat told

17-Oct-2023

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,905 of 2,164 applications, or 88%, for the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme were approved between November 2021 to the end of September this year, says Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

“To make the MM2H programme more interesting and competitive, the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, together with the Home Ministry, is always revising the terms and conditions of this programme,” the Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister in a written reply dated Oct 16.

For the Premium Visa Programme (PVIP), Tiong said 57 applications were processed, where 28 were approved and the remaining 29 applications were recommended for approval.

“The PVIP programme is under the purview of the Home Ministry and the Immigration Department,” added Tiong.

Tiong was responding to a question from Yeo Bee Yin (PH-Puchong), who asked Tiong to state the amount of applications and approvals under the MM2H and PVIP programme.

In Aug 2021, Putrajaya announced new conditions for the MM2H programme, including the requirement for applicants to have permanent savings of at least RM1mil and a declaration of liquid assets of at least RM1.5mil.

MM2H applicants would need to have an offshore income of at least RM40,000 a month, up from RM10,000 per month required, previously.

During the tabling of Budget 2024 last Friday (Oct 13), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Putrajaya agreed to ease the existing conditions for MM2H applications to increase the arrival of tourists and foreign investors to Malaysia.
