Indication
Herpes zoster. Accelerates the resolution of pain by reducing the duration & proportion of patient w/ zoster-associated pain, which includes acute & post-herpetic neuralgia. Herpes simplex infections of the skin & mucous membranes, including initial & recurrent genital herpes. Reduces the risk of transmission of herpes simplex.
 
Instruction
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort. Adult Herpes zoster 1 g tds for 7 days. Herpes simplex infections 500 mg bd for 5 days (for recurrent episodes) or 10 days (for initial episodes). Prevention of herpes simplex infections 500 mg once daily. Immunocompromised patient 500 mg bd. Reduction of transmission of genital herpes 500 mg daily.
 
Drug interaction
Mycophenolate mofetil. Cyclosporin, tacrolimus.
