They will also secrete formic acid, body fluids, etc. These substances will gradually be absorbed by the tree, affecting the smell of agarwood. The formation is caused by animals chewing the agarwood tree, damaging the tree body and causing injury and infection. Then it activates its self-protection mechanism and begins to secrete resin. The resin interacts with air moisture for a long time, thus forming agarwood.
