The retort pouch is a flexible, heat-sealable, flat container capable of withstanding the high temperature (121 °C) required for pressure-processing rice and other low-acid foods. This container represents an alternative packaging system to conventional metal cans and glass jars. Shelf life of Retort products will be 12 months to 36 months in ambient conditions without refrigeration.
