Sabah will get more help if state aligned with federal govt - Muhyiddin

18-Sep-2020

KUDAT, Sept 18  -- More aid and allocations can be extended to Sabah for the benefit of the people if the leadership of the Land Below the Wind is aligned with the federal government, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The prime minister said for now the federal government could only give assistance to Sabah as far as what it is stated as compulsory under the Federal Constitution because the Sabah and federal governments are not on the same page.

“We help but the assistance is only to the extent of what is mandatory under the Federal Constitution, that is the right of the Sabah people,” he said at a meet-the-people session at Dewan Tun Mustapha here today.

Also present was the Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate for Tanjong Kapor, Nurlizah Gurahman.

Muhyiddin said in facing the difficult and unusual circumstances caused by COVID-19, the state and federal governments should be united in helping the people affected by the pandemic.

He said the federal government was always seeking ways to help the people, especially the B40 group, who were the worst hit by the impact of COVID-19.

''If the state and federal governments are on the same wavelength, of one heart, one mind, it’s easier (to channel aid),” he added.

Muhyiddin also said Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) has done a lot in helping to improve the people’s standard of living.

As of July this year, 63,781 people in Sabah had benefited from AIM financing totalling RM2.36 billion, he said.

He said that in the Kudat parliamentary constituency alone, 4,267 people had received financing totalling RM98.5 million.
