Pekat Group Secures RM33.8 Million Gamuda Subcontract for Hyperscale Data Centre in Selangor

Pekat Group Bhd has strengthened its position in the fast-expanding data-centre infrastructure sector after securing a RM33.8 million subcontract from Gamuda Engineering Sdn Bhd. The works form part of a major hyperscale data centre development located at Eco Business Park V, Puncak Alam, Selangor.

According to a Bursa Malaysia filing, the contract was awarded to Pekat’s wholly owned subsidiary Pekat E & LP Sdn Bhd.


Scope of Work: Earthing & Lightning Protection Systems

The subcontract covers specialised construction, testing, commissioning and operational setup of earthing and lightning protection systems across the data centre’s key components, including:

  • Data halls

  • Mechanical and electrical (M&E) yards

  • Offshore development centre hub

These systems are critical to the safe, uninterrupted operation of high-density computing environments—particularly in hyperscale facilities where electrical load and redundancy requirements are significantly higher.


Completion Timeline & Defects Liability Periods

The project spans two main facilities with the following milestones:

Facility 1

  • Trade completion: 16 December 2026

  • Substantial completion: 28 February 2027

  • Defects liability period: 36 months

Facility 2

  • Trade completion: 15 April 2027

  • Substantial completion: 1 September 2027

  • Defects liability period: 30 months

Pekat must also furnish a RM1.69 million performance bond and secure all relevant insurance policies. Delays may trigger damages of RM50,000 per day, capped at 20% of the contract value (RM6.76 million).


Strong Share Price Performance in 2025

At Thursday’s noon market break, Pekat’s shares rose 0.62% to RM1.62, valuing the company at RM1.14 billion. The stock has gained an impressive 63.64% year-to-date, reflecting heightened investor interest in Malaysia’s data-centre and renewable-energy ecosystems.


Relevance to Klang Valley Industrial & Commercial Corridors

The contract reinforces Selangor’s role as a growing hub for hyperscale and AI-driven data centre investments—an expansion trend that directly influences surrounding property markets, especially:

  • Industrial land in Selangor (for data centres, logistics & utility-heavy users)

  • Industrial property in the Subang area (strong M&E and tech supply chain proximity)

  • Factory activity in Puchong (supporting contractors, fabricators, M&E specialists)

  • Commercial property in KL (corporate HQs and tech operators)

  • Office space in Bukit Jalil (popular among ICT, digital services & backend ops teams)

With the digital infrastructure boom continuing across Greater Kuala Lumpur, demand for high-spec industrial and commercial assets is expected to strengthen further.
