NPE2 Extension Set for 2029 Completion, Expected to Ease Congestion Across KL — Nanta

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 12) — The RM1.7 billion New Pantai Expressway Extension (NPE2) is now officially underway, with the project expected to be fully completed and operational by 2029. The extension forms a critical part of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Master Plan 2040, aiming to significantly reduce congestion across several high-density corridors in the capital.

Spanning 6.4km along its main route — or 15km including directional ramps — NPE2 will link the Pantai Dalam Toll Plaza directly to Jalan Istana, creating a seamless connection from Bangsar and Mid Valley through to the wider Klang Valley, including major hubs like Subang Jaya, an area well known for its rising demand in industrial property in the Subang area.


Up to 25 Minutes in Travel Time Savings

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the NPE2 extension is designed to improve traffic flow along the heavily congested Pantai Dalam–Bangsar–Mahameru stretch.

Nanta said motorists travelling from Bangsar or Mid Valley to Subang Jaya may save up to 25 minutes once the highway opens, thanks to improved service levels and more efficient traffic dispersal. This enhanced connectivity is expected to support broader property market activity in surrounding districts, including demand for commercial property in KL and neighbouring townships.


Boost for Local Growth and Urban Development

The minister highlighted that NPE2 will stimulate new opportunities in adjacent neighbourhoods such as Pantai Dalam, Bangsar, and Lembah Pantai, supporting growth in housing, commerce, and employment.

The improved accessibility is also expected to benefit businesses and logistics players operating around Klang Valley, especially those requiring strategic connectivity near hubs like factory facilities in Puchong, growing residential pockets near office space in Bukit Jalil, and companies expanding across industrial land in Selangor.


Fully Private-Funded, No Government Cost

Nanta stressed that the entire project will be financed by New Pantai Expressway Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of IJM Corporation Bhd, with no financial burden placed on the government.

“This is a strong example of a public-private partnership delivering sustainable infrastructure that benefits the rakyat,” he said.


Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) System Progress

Nanta also updated on the implementation of the multi-lane free flow (MLFF) tolling system, confirming that six companies have expressed interest in bidding.

He added that MLFF will operate on a business-to-business model, where providers work directly with existing highway concessionaires. The government aims for an efficient, AI-driven system capable of ensuring safer, faster, and smoother journeys for all road users.
