How Global Conflicts Are Increasing Risks in International Shipping

09-Mar-2026

Global trade depends heavily on stable and efficient shipping routes. However, ongoing conflicts in different parts of the world are increasingly disrupting international logistics. As geopolitical tensions rise, shipping companies are forced to adapt their routes, schedules, and safety measures, creating new challenges for global supply chains.

In many cases, vessels must avoid certain regions due to security risks. This results in longer transit routes, extended delivery times, and higher operational costs. When shipments remain at sea for longer periods, cargo is exposed to fluctuating temperatures and humidity for a greater duration. These environmental conditions can negatively affect product quality, particularly for moisture-sensitive goods.

Extended shipping times also increase the likelihood of condensation inside containers, a phenomenon often referred to as “container rain.” When warm air inside a container cools during transit, moisture condenses on the container walls and ceiling, eventually dripping onto cargo. This can cause mold growth, product spoilage, packaging damage, and corrosion of metal components.

For industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, electronics, textiles, and consumer goods, maintaining product integrity during transport is critical. Even minor exposure to moisture or oxygen can compromise product performance and reduce shelf life.

As global shipping conditions become more unpredictable, businesses must strengthen their packaging protection strategies. Incorporating moisture and oxygen control solutions, such as desiccants and oxygen absorbers, helps create a stable environment inside packaging and shipping containers. These protective measures help reduce the risk of humidity damage during long or unpredictable transit periods.

In an era where global events can rapidly reshape supply chains, proactive protection is essential. By preparing for longer shipping routes and environmental exposure, companies can safeguard product quality, minimize losses, and ensure that goods arrive in optimal condition despite global uncertainties.
