3Wire TMF2X Thermal Mass Flow Meter
Accurate Gas Mass Flow Measurement for Industrial Applications
The 3Wire TMF2X Thermal Mass Flow Meter is designed for reliable gas flow monitoring in industrial environments. Using the thermal diffusion principle, TMF2X provides direct gas mass flow measurement without the need for external temperature or pressure compensation.
It is suitable for compressed air, industrial gas distribution, process gas monitoring, low-flow detection, leakage monitoring, and plant utility optimisation.
Compact, digital, stable and easy to install, TMF2X helps facilities monitor gas usage more accurately and improve visibility over compressed air and gas consumption.

How TMF2X Works
TMF2X uses a constant temperature differential method to measure gas mass flow.
The meter uses two platinum resistance temperature sensors:
One sensor measures the actual gas temperature.
The second sensor is heated and maintained at a fixed temperature difference above the gas temperature.
As gas flows across the heated sensor, heat is removed from the sensor. The higher the gas velocity, the stronger the cooling effect. The meter measures the heater power required to maintain the temperature difference.
This heater power is directly related to the gas mass flow rate.
Because of this principle, TMF2X can measure gas mass flow directly without requiring pressure or temperature compensation.
Key Features
Direct Mass Flow Measurement
TMF2X measures gas mass flow directly, helping users obtain accurate and stable flow readings without additional pressure and temperature correction.
No Pressure or Temperature Compensation Required
The thermal mass flow principle allows convenient measurement without the need for separate pressure or temperature compensation devices.
Wide Measuring Range
TMF2X supports a wide gas velocity measurement range from 0.1 Nm/s to 100 Nm/s, making it suitable for both low-flow and high-flow applications.
Suitable for Low-Flow and Leak Detection
The meter is suitable for low-flow monitoring and gas leak detection, especially in compressed air and industrial gas systems where small losses can become costly over time.
No Moving Parts
TMF2X has no moving mechanical parts, improving reliability and reducing maintenance requirements.
Stable in Harsh Industrial Conditions
The sensor design is resistant to vibration and suitable for demanding industrial operating environments.
Easy Installation and Maintenance
The meter is designed for straightforward installation, configuration and maintenance. Online installation may be possible where site conditions permit.
Digital Design
TMF2X uses a fully digital design for stable measurement, accurate output and convenient integration.

Flow Range
TMF2X supports a broad pipe size range from DN15 to DN300mm, with standard and extended flow range options depending on application requirements.
Typical applications include compressed air lines, gas distribution headers, process gas systems, nitrogen, oxygen, argon, biogas and other compatible industrial gases.
For correct sizing, pipe size, gas type, operating pressure, operating temperature and expected flow range should be reviewed during selection.
Typical Applications
TMF2X is suitable for:
Compressed air monitoring
Industrial gas consumption monitoring
Process gas flow measurement
Low-flow gas monitoring
Gas leakage detection
Plant utility metering
Energy efficiency projects
Production gas usage tracking
PLC and SCADA gas flow integration
IoT-based gas monitoring through RS-485 gateway
Why Choose 3Wire TMF2X?
Gas and compressed air systems often suffer from invisible losses. Small leaks, poor visibility and unmonitored consumption can lead to significant operating cost over time.
TMF2X gives plant teams a practical way to measure gas flow continuously and accurately.
It helps users:
Improve visibility of gas consumption
Detect abnormal low-flow and leakage conditions
Support compressed air energy efficiency
Monitor plant utility usage
Integrate gas flow data into automation or IoT platforms
Reduce manual checking and improve operational control
Integration with IoTWatt 4.0
When connected through RS-485 and suitable IoT gateways, TMF2X can support advanced monitoring through IoTWatt 4.0.
This enables gas flow data to be combined with energy, production and equipment data for better efficiency analysis, cost tracking and sustainability reporting.
