Curriculum Program (KS4)

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), pioneered by the University of Cambridge, stands as a globally recognized examination taken annually by students from over 100 countries. It serves as a cornerstone for secondary education, laying a robust foundation for progression to A-levels, pre-university programmes, and esteemed universities and employers worldwide.

To optimally prepare students for the IGCSE and their future careers, LUCA International School introduces two distinct paths starting from Year 10: Combined Science and Pure Science. These divisions cater to diverse specialties and career aspirations.

Students opting for Combined Science undertake 6 compulsory subjects: IGCSE English, Chinese, Mathematics, Global Perspective, and Accounting. Additionally, they select two electives from Malay, Art and Design, Business, and ICT. This track is ideal for those pursuing careers in business or the arts.

On the other hand, Pure Science students focus on 5 compulsory subjects, including English, Chinese, Mathematics, Global Perspective, and Accounting. They further choose at least 2 Pure Science subjects from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Additional Mathematics, alongside at least 1 elective. This path suits students aspiring to careers in fields like pharmacy, engineering, and medicine, where a strong foundation in science is pivotal.

Year 10 and Year 11 are pivotal for students to solidify their personal direction. Thus, both Combined Science and Pure Science students engage in LUCA Academy's Life Education course, fostering self-awareness and personal growth.

At the culmination of Year 11, students sit for the IGCSE examination, which evaluates them across various assessments including writing, speaking, and practical skills, resulting in grades ranging from A* to G. Teachers craft challenging tasks aligned with IGCSE standards, enhancing students' critical thinking, knowledge acquisition, and skills development, ensuring they excel in the examinations. Moreover, students receive training in goal-setting, leadership, global awareness, and innovative thinking, equipping them comprehensively for future success.
