- The HT-9600 is an “indicative” instrument. It is not a ‘precision’ device in the mould of the Casella CEL-712 or TSI DustTrak.
- It is however a very useful, inexpensive option for checking ‘breakthrough’ on recirculating particulate filters etc.
- The manufacturer claims a +/- 20% error margin. In field trials running alongside a Casella CEL-712 we have found it to be surprisingly close to the CEL-712 recorded values
- The HT-9600 is not suitable for accredited calibration in the normal sense (the calibration costs would be significantly greater than the instrument cost!) however, as an “indicator” of dust breakthrough from recirculating particulate filters it can be very effective
- A suggested simple protocol for ‘indicative’ filter breakthrough would be as follows:- % Run the unit in a clean environment and note the values recorded. Repeat to obtain 3 stable readings in total
- Monitor at the outlet from a recirculation filter – again 3 times
- Empirically, any increase in dust concentrations recorded would suggest that ‘breakthrough’ is occurring
- If elevated dust readings are recorded at the filter outlet – investigate immediately
- Experience in the field has shown that if filter ‘breakthrough’ is occurring the readings will usually be very significantly higher than those obtained from the clean environment set-up tests
- The HT-9600 can also be used by site staff as part of their routine checks on filter integrity, with results being recorded in the LEV system Log Book.
