Perodua Drops New Teaser for Its Next Model — Just Days After Its First EV Launch

10-Dec-2025

Less than a week after introducing its first EV in Malaysia, Perodua has already begun teasing its next model. A short video posted on its social media platforms reveals a mysterious silhouette, which many believe is a new B-segment crossover, rumoured to be named the Perodua Traz (D66B). Although the vehicle is mostly hidden in shadow, the faint outline of the rear quarter can be seen, and its shape closely resembles that of its Toyota counterpart.

Industry sources suggest that the upcoming Perodua model will be based on the ASEAN-market Toyota Yaris Cross. When both vehicles are compared from similar angles, the proportions match fairly well. However, certain elements look different, such as the bumper design, and the absence of roof rails and a shark-fin antenna. This indicates Perodua may be giving the model its own styling, much like how the Alza differs from the Veloz, and the Ativa from the Raize/Rocky. The front end appears to follow the Yaris Cross more closely, with a similar connection between the bonnet and grille.

Perodua’s teaser also includes a close-up shot of the grille. The Perodua badge is positioned within a mesh-style grille and slightly touches the upper trim piece. The mesh pattern resembles the design seen on the Alza, but with a different placement for the logo, giving it a unique look.

Despite wearing a Toyota badge, the Yaris Cross is built on the DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) platform, developed through the Toyota–Daihatsu joint venture. The standard ASEAN version uses a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine that produces 106 hp and 138 Nm, paired with either a manual or CVT — with the CVT being the most likely candidate for Malaysia. In Thailand, the model is offered exclusively as a hybrid, providing a combined output of 111 hp from its petrol engine and electric motor.

Early details suggest Perodua’s upcoming crossover will be bigger than the Ativa, but still smaller than the Aruz and Alza, placing it firmly within the B-segment. This positions it as a direct rival to one of Malaysia’s best-selling crossovers, the Proton X50. More information is expected to be revealed as the launch approaches.
